My name is Saadhya Munigela and I’m a freshman at Thomas Jefferson High School in Virginia. As a 14-year-old with many activities and interests, I find myself constantly busy with something. I am currently learning Kuchipudi (an Indian dance form), Hindustani classical singing, and harmonium (a type of reed organ). Besides these, I’ve been playing the flute for four years now, and I love art. Some of my many hobbies include baking, crocheting, painting, and sewing.
I enjoy doing all of these activities and want to improve in each of them. But sometimes, handling so many things along with schoolwork can be challenging- even though I love doing them. I feel like the one thing that can always keep me centered and focused through it all is meditation. I’ve been practicing Sahaja Yoga since I was very little and it has helped me in every aspect of my life. Meditating balances my mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual being. It keeps me calm and joyful in whatever I’m doing.
If I ever feel off, through meditating, I can always get back to that peaceful state where I’m relaxed. This has helped me countless times when I’ve been stressed about a test at school, drama with friends, or anything at all. I meditate because I’ve seen how much it helps me, and I think everyone should get to experience this too.
